Collioure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nestled in the heart of the C\u00f4te Vermeille, just a few kilometers from our campsite in Perpignan<\/a>, Collioure offers its inhabitants and visitors a panoramic view and an outstanding heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very much influenced by Catalan culture, its colorful facades, flowering balconies and marina will delight walkers and vacationers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saint-Martin du Canigou<\/strong> Abbey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This religious edifice has long been a holy place, since the original abbey was built as early as the XI\u1d49 century by order of Count Guifred II of Cerdanya. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Benedictine monastery, the former abbey of Saint-Martin du Canigou endured until it was abandoned in 1783. Confiscated during the revolution and subsequently privatized, it was only in the XX\u1d49 century that it was rebuilt by the Catalan people, in a Romanesque style typical of the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\n\n

Salses<\/strong> fortress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Begun in 1497 and completed in 1504, the fortress of Salses is a military bastion whose construction was ordered by the Spanish Catholic sovereigns Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, with the aim of protecting the Spanish kingdoms from French troops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed by architect and engineer Francisco Ramiro Lopez, this fort sealed the old French-Spanish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Organs of Ille-sur-T\u00eat<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These astonishing natural rock columns (often called fairy chimneys) are the result of the erosion of sand, clay and sedimentary rocks over four million years old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These geological rarities are part of a remarkable site, with its blend of vegetation and mountains. On a clear day, the Canigou massif can be seen in the background.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Lake Bouillouses<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located at the foot of the Carlit massif, Lac des Bouillouses is an exceptional listed site and one of the largest lakes in the French Pyrenees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly 60 km of signposted trails have been laid out around the lake, allowing you to explore its extraordinary landscapes, which combine high mountains with the lake’s rivers and tributaries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\n\n
